Zampell Achieves a New Milestone in 2014 with $100million in Revenue

NEWBURYPORT, MA, USA – APRIL 16, 2015 – ZAMPELL COMPANIES – In 2014, Zampell achieved $100million in revenue throughout all of its business lines. This is a new milestone for Zampell as it is the first time it crossed the nine figure mark. Despite this growth, Zampell continues to focus on maintaining a small, family-owned company experience for its customers.

When asked about this milestone, Jim Zampell said, “I am so very grateful for the hard work of all our employees to reach this new milestone. It’s great to see all of our business lines growing and contributing to Zampell reaching this new level. It was truly a team effort last year to get to where we are.”

All Zampell entities showed a marked increase in sales last year, with the new acquisitions in Europe contributing a significant jump in volume from their increased sales. A main driver of the achievement of this milestone is new growth in refractories. Zampell has taken steps over the past several years to diversify and expand its capabilities into different refractory markets, yielding excellent growth returns in 2014.

Jim Zampell commented further on this new growth and said, “I think it’s great to see Zampell thriving overall, but more importantly it’s great to see Zampell building solid, recurring maintenance partnerships with new clients in new industries and new territories. At our core, we still focus on building a service network with a lot of loyal clients. The growth that we see is not just a couple big projects, it’s a whole collection of smaller customers that have needs for a technical solution and good craftsmanship.”

Zampell is a merit shop service organization that is chiefly involved with the engineering and construction of refractories and insulation within the industrial sector. It is a family-owned business that was established in 1966 and continues to grow due to its core value of quality craftsmanship. Zampell has branch offices in Massachusetts (headquarters), Maine, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Florida, Texas and Oregon. Zampell also has a subsidiary, Zampell A/S with locations in Jutland and Sjælland in Denmark. For more information on the Zampell family of companies please visit their website at www.zampell.com.

Zampell Completes Refractory Engineering and Supply for the New Durham York Energy Centre

NEWBURYPORT, MA, USA – APRIL 16, 2015 – ZAMPELL COMPANIES – On February 13, 2015, the Durham York Energy Centre in Canada began processing waste for the first time. Zampell became part of this project in the early stages of development, back in September 2011, to aid in the engineering, design, and supply of a refractory lining for this new waste to energy facility.

The project progressed from a concept, to engineering, to drawings, and finally on to material supply. As part of the supply, Zampell also provided on-site quality control supervision on the installation in order to support the local contractor with the technical aspects of the refractory system. This project is a great development for the greater Toronto area and for Canada as it emphasizes the four R’s of landfill reduction: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Recover. Waste to energy, a technology that has matured over 100 years, is the most reliable process available to the marketplace for the recovery of waste to make energy in the form of steam and electricity.

In this project, Zampell oversaw the supply and installation of over 150 tons of refractory materials. This included over 1000 square feet of Zampell Advanced Refractory Tiles (ZAR-Tiles). On top of all this, Zampell invested over 400 man hours of engineering and design to generate the various drawings that made this project a success. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, Zampell directly oversaw 11 different field design changes to accommodate actual conditions from design conditions that ensured the best possible outcome would be reached.

John Heffernan, Zampell’s Senior Manager of Sales and Engineering commented on the project and said, “I am very proud of the job my team did. To take a facility like this and accommodate a variety of different mechanical suppliers shows the value we can provide. A lot of hard work went into this and I’m proud that it was a success.”

When asked about this project, Brian Zampell said, “Engineering is a core value of the Zampell business. This project is an excellent example of how we can take a mechanical design for a waste to energy facility and adapt our techniques and products. I’m proud of our employees.”

Jim Zampell, Zampell’s President and CEO since 1981, observed, “With forty years of experience in Waste to Energy, we have seen a wide variety of incineration technologies and refractory systems, so from our construction and maintenance experience, we are confident that we can give our customers the best value for their facilities.”

Zampell Successfully Merges Danish Subsidiaries Schmidt & Danielsen A/S and Refcon A/S to form Zampell A/S

DENMARK – MARCH 24, 2015 – ZAMPELL COMPANIES – In 2015, Refcon A/S and Schmidt & Danielsen A/S, two Danish companies with proud DKTruck
traditions in refractory, merged to form a new organization, Zampell A/S. These two companies became part of the family owned company, Zampell, in 2013. Zampell is a leader in the refractory industry with many years of experience, technical knowledge, and financial capabilities, which makes Zampell a solid partner in Denmark for both existing and new customers.

When asked about the merger, Brian Zampell stated, “I am excited to move forward as
one company in Denmark. By bringing these two subsidiaries together as one company under the Zampell name, it helps to unite our operations in Denmark with our businesses in the USA. The best part about this development is that our Danish companies already uphold the core values of the Zampell name, including safety, customer service, quality, engineering, and, most importantly, craftsmanship.”

The aim of the merger is, as always, to provide high quality refractory services to Zampell’s many customers and to do so throughout the USA and Europe. Through the combination of Zampell, Refcon A/Sfrontpage-UK-flip1, and Schmidt & Danielsen A/S, there are increased opportunities and knowledge with a unified approach to carrying out tasks. Zampell A/S will continue the Zampell model by having each office maintain its own resources and installation personnel, enabling Zampell to respond on short notice for customer emergencies. The greatest benefit for the merger is that it creates an environment where knowledge will be shared across offices in the USA,
UK, and Denmark. Having access to multiple solutions in a variety of industries will enhance Zampell’s overall capacity to provide the best service to their customers.

Zampell Completes Refractory Installation at Louisiana Pellet Mill

BEAUMONT, TX, USA – MARCH 24, 2015 – ZAMPELL COMPANIES – Despite the monsoons of August in Louisiana, Zampell persevered and completed a major new construction project at a new pellet production facility in Louisiana. Pellets are a key source of biomass energy in the European marketplace as there is a unified goal to minimize fossil fuel usage. By using pellets instead of fossil fuels, European power producers are able to still utilize major assets by doing conversion projects from something like coal to wood pellets. This sort of forward thinking is moving each European country closer and closer to every nation’s end goal – energy independence.

This particular project for Zampell will be one of the largest producers in the USA. As a PelletMill2credit to Zampell, the company had zero OSHA recordable injuries and zero OSHA lost time injuries on this project. With everything that Zampell does, the most important measurement is that the jobs are done safely. On top of that, Zampell installed eight hundred and fifteen tons of refractories on this project as well, making it one of the bigger projects that Zampell has ever tackled.

The crew was pleased to finish the job as well due to the challenges from weather. When asked about the site conditions, the project manager said with a chuckle, “Mud, mud, and more mud.” For one particular stretch, the crew reflected that it must have rained for two months straight. Again, despite these challenges, Zampell persevered and got the job done.
