NEWBURYPORT, MA – MARCH 31, 2017 – ZAMPELL COMPANIES – In 2016, Zampell turned 50 years old. As part of marking this occasion, Zampell engaged with David O’Neil from The Story Trust to compile a history of the company’s first 50 years. The history project culminated in the creation of a book, now available online at https://www.zampell.com/our-company-history/. A print format will be available soon as it is currently in production.
When asked about the book, Jim Zampell said, “I’m very proud to see this project completed. It’s a great opportunity for all of our current and future employees to know the story and see where we started.” He went on to comment, “My father would be humbled to see the company’s story like this. David [O’Neil] did a great job bringing it to life.”
The book project took over a year of interviews, historical analyses, and compiling artifacts from the company’s history to include in the book. Zampell included stories and recollections from customers, employees, vendors and members of the Zampell family. It has six different chapters, covering the history of Zampell from Tom Zampell’s early years, to the founding of Zampell Refractories, Inc. in 1966, up to the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary. The final chapter is a reflection by Jim Zampell on his career as President and CEO from 1981 to 2016 along with his thoughts on the future of the company under the leadership of his son, Brian.
In the foreward, Brian Zampell wrote, “My hope is that as we go forward, this book will serve as a reminder of who we are as a company today and the importance of staying true to our core values. It is a book that is especially created for the employees of Zampell, as this story is not just a story about a family but also a story about a family of employees. To our many employees, I want you to know that this is your story, and I sincerely thank you for your contributions.”
